Commentary by Mike Adams, the creator of this cartoon:

With modern humans engaged in highly destructive behaviors towards nature (pollution, toxic chemicals production, CO2 emissions, abuse of animals, use of Roundup herbicides, etc.), did you ever wonder what nature would do to humans if it had the chance? In this CounterThink cartoon, the trees march on human cities, spraying “Human Roundup” as workers flee the campus of Monsanto, the company that manufactures Roundup.

It brings to mind images from the Lord of the Rings, where the Ents, fed up with the evil mage Saruman’s reckless destruction of nature, attacked his fortress at Isengard. (Click here to read up on the Saruman saga at Wikipedia.) The Ents, led by Treebeard, hurled boulders at Saruman’s army and even unleashed a river by smashing a dam, drowning orcs in a torrent of water that only the trees could withstand due to their mass and height.

It was a brilliant display of evil being defeated by the forces of nature. All the weapons used by the Ents were elementals, too: the boulders were from rock, the flood was composed of water, and the trees themselves were made of wood. The symbolism in this work is very powerful, and the message remains valid even in modern times: That nature is more powerful than evil men.

Today, as mankind continues to destroy the planet’s environment and ecosystems, some rather inconvenient natural events are about to be unleashed that will no doubt severely impact human populations. It doesn’t mean trees will uproot themselves and march upon our cities, of course. That’s just a cartoon depiction. What’s far more likely to happen is that imbalanced ecosystems will unleash famines and infectious diseases that will ultimately devastate humankind.

Why famines? Because radical weather patterns caused by global warming will disrupt food production, causing droughts in some areas and floods in others. As food production plummets, famine will become widespread. We are, after all, in a “food bubble” right now.

Why infectious disease? Because only balanced, healthy ecosystems keep infectious disease at bay. When ecosystems are disrupted, they become breeding grounds for infectious pathogens. Those pathogens spread quickly through non-natural animal production facilities (bird farms, cattle ranches, fish farming ponds, etc.), accelerating the mutation rate and greatly increasing the chance of cross-species infections that can then be spread by human-to-human contact. Bird flu, for example, remains globally uncontrolled and could mutate into a human form at any moment.

On top of this, our hospitals are actually breeding antibiotic-resistant superbugs through the rampant abuse of antibiotics, and our food supply has very little safety oversight (as we’ve seen with deadly bacterial contaminations of peanut butter, spinach, onions and other food items over the past two years). There’s also mad cow disease, which can easily pass to humans through beef products, and which cannot be killed by cooking the meat. And don’t forget our modern corporate-controlled agricultural practices which eliminate biodiversity and base the future of humanity on a few patented strains of food-producing crops that are practically begging to be wiped out by blight or some other crop disease.

Then we turn to the forces of nature. Consider these: The rising intensity of hurricanes (Katrina, anyone?), the devastating 2004 Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the disruption of seasonal crop-producing rains in India, the recent cold-freeze decimation of the California citrus industry, the floods and droughts happening now on virtually every continent, earthquakes, sinkholes and volcanoes… the more you look at natural events, the more it becomes increasingly obvious that Earth changes are accelerating at an alarming pace. Nature is giving humanity a dose of its own medicine, so to speak, and humans are poised to pay a dear price for the destruction they have unleashed upon the planet.

Of course, nature is not vengeful, and she does not act out of cruelty or anger. Rather, nature responds in kind to the treatment it has received. When humans treat nature with respect, she responds with abundant crops, predictable weather and stable ecosystems that sustain life. But when humans treat planet Earth as a dumping ground for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, power plant emissions and automobile exhaust, nature responds in a way that ultimately “rebalances” the global ecosystem.

And how do you rebalance the global ecosystem? The most direct way, from nature’s point of view, is to get rid of the cancer that’s destroying the planet. That cancer, of course, is us. Humans are, by far, the most destructive force on the planet and the greatest threat to life and biodiversity on planet Earth. It’s almost like finding two fish in a fishbowl who have hatched plans to crack the bowl and drain the water out because it would make room for more fish. Silly fish, huh?

But humans are ultimately no different. It is a simple fact that for planet Earth to attain a state of balance, the current population of human beings will need to be radically reduced. The alternative to that scenario is that human beings would find ways to live in harmony with the planet, but given the foolishishness and short-term thinking tendancy of the human species, this is highly unlikely. The most likely scenario is the continued destruction of nature, followed by a radical planetary alteration that collapses the human population bubble, followed by a period of planetary cleansing and rebalancing during which animals, plants and natural resources flourish, along with whatever remaining humans manage to survive the crunch.

It is clear that humankind, as situated today, is incompatible with sustainable living, and unless humans can somehow find a way to radically reduce their “footprint” on planet Earth, the natural consequences will be quite severe.

Of course, it’s only severe from the point of view of humans. From planet Earth’s point of view, humankind can simply be shrugged off in the blink of an eye (say, 10,000 years), and the planet will go on living without the destructive presence of modern humans.

Virtually everything modern civilization now values — from technology and science to knowledge and intellectual property — was developed in the last 5,000 years. And most of it in just the last 50 years. Yet with all the advances we’ve been able to create, and all the apparent mastery over the laws of nature, we’ve really only proved that we do not have the wisdom to live in harmony with our own world. We’re destroying the ground beneath our feet, and that is not an attribute of an advanced civilization.

Let’s face it: Humans are infants, and we act like children in the way we deal with our home planet. Perhaps a future civilization will do better than this one, because the one we live in right now is headed for certain disaster. Remember: modern human civilization is not the first civilization to rise and fall on this planet, nor will it be the last. All we can hope for is that future beings who inhabit this world will be wiser than we have been and will somehow find the presence of mind to stop destroying their planet before it destroys them.

In the mean time, you can do your best to honor and protect the planet by living a green lifestyle and remembering where you came from — the Earth. We’re all made of this Earth, and it is Earth water that fills that soggy mass of neurons in your skull. It is Earth iron that turns your blood red, and Earth air that fills your lungs with each breath. To honor the Earth is to honor yourself, for you are not separate from this planet, and your own health is inevitably tied to the health of the world you inhabit.

Dentists, doctors and government health authorities who actually promote the fluoridation of public water supplies are nothing less than clinically insane.

Commentary by Mike Adams, the creator of this cartoon:

The fluoride issue is, in my opinion, a “sanity test” for anyone who claims to know anything about health. As I will explain here, all the dentists, doctors and government health authorities who actually promote the fluoridation of public water supplies are nothing less than clinically insane.

How do I know? Because I know where this so-called “fluoride” comes from. Cities actually buy the stuff from coal plants and chemical manufacturers, where it would normally have to be disposed of as a toxic waste chemical if it wasn’t sold to towns and cities to be dumped into the water supply. This fluoride byproduct of chemical processing is so toxic that it’s a violation of environmental laws to dump it into any river. Yet it’s somehow perfectly legal to feed it to infants, children, adults and senior citizens who are drinking from the public water supply. Interesting, huh? It’s so toxic that it kills fish, but dentists want your babies to drink it.

The entire pro-fluoride argument lacks a single shred of scientific evidence showing any benefit whatsoever to the mass consumption of the fluoride chemical. Essentially, the leaders in dentistry and medicine simply invented a myth about fluoride and dental health, then invested their careers and egos in the desperate defense of this myth, even as the scientific evidence clearly shows increased rates of hip fractures, fluorosis and even cancer from fluoride consumption.

The claims about fluoride essentially make it a drug according to FDA regulations, yet this “drug” has never been approved as a treatment or cure for dental caries by the FDA. Furthermore, can you think of any other drug that is mass-medicated to the entire population with no diagnosis, no medical oversight and no patient follow-up whatsoever? It’s like dumping Prozac into the water supply and saying, “Everyone is depressed and needs their brain chemistry balanced.” A silly idea, of course, but it’s essentially the same as dumping fluoride into the water supply.

Of course, any use of reason, logic or genuine science is not allowed in the fluoride debate. Dentists, doctors and health authorities viciously defend the indiscriminate fluoridation of all humans with the ferocity of rabid pack dogs. For any sane person to even suggest that perhaps industrial waste chemicals should not be dumped into public water supplies is to invite a wild-eyed verbal assault by dentists so filled with ignorance and froth that you would think you were insulting the false gods of some outdated superstition from eons past. Which, of course, is exactly what fluoridation is: superstition.

Any perceived health benefit of mass fluoridation is nothing more than persistent myth, desperately defended by the most irrational, unscientific and easily offended members of modern society — who all happen to reside in some branch of medicine, by the way. These myth pushers claim to base their support of dumping toxic chemicals into the water supply based on so-called “scientific evidence” that they can never quite produce. The only evidence they have is the circular-logic statements of various dentists quoting each other in some sort of deviant doctoral blabbing contest. Meanwhile, they selectively ignore any real evidence from scientific studies showing the damaging effects of fluoride.

Selective censorship of reality is, of course, the very foundation of modern dentistry — an industry that exists in such blatant denial of reality that it continues to implant some 34 metric tons of mercury — one of the most toxic substances to human and environmental health — into the mouths of dental patients each year. All while calling it perfectly safe, of course.

Mercury is perfectly safe, they all proclaim. And so is fluoride. And, come to think of it, there’s no such thing as any chemical too dangerous to put in the mouths or stomachs of patients as long as your dentist says so. And while we’re at it, don’t forget to have your wisdom teeth surgically removed — yet another medically useless procedure that’s been scientifically shown to be utterly worthless according to the British Medical Journal. I, for one, still have all my wisdom teeth, and nearly every time I see a new dentist, the idiot insists that I have them surgically removed even though they are entirely asymptomatic (i.e. nothing’s wrong with them).

All this explains why the fluoride question is such an effective sanity test. Anyone who genuinely supports the disposal of toxic fluoride chemicals via public waterways is not merely a fool and a danger to themselves; they are a danger to society and should probably be locked away in some sort of institution where crazy people can bang their heads against the walls until their mercury fillings fall out. There, at least, they won’t harm anybody else.

Fortunately, there are a growing number of sane dentists and doctors in the world. One of the leading organizations in this regard is the IAOMT. Watch their “Smoking Teeth” video if you want to learn the truth about mercury fillings, or read their Position on Fluoridation to hear what sane, intelligent dentists have concluded about mass fluoridation practices.

And if you still have mercury fillings in your mouth, get them removed by a dentist who specializes in mercury removal. Be sure to take plenty of chlorella and Jon Barron’s Metal Magic tincture before and after any such procedure to minimize the amount of fluoride that gets into your body during removal.

Finally, if your dentist continues to push fluoridation and mercury fillings (they call them “silver fillings” to hide the fact that they’re made with mercury), fire the idiot and find yourself a new dentist who runs a more natural health oriented practice. Natural dentistry is a growing practice. And it’s no mystery why. The American Dental Association, in my opinion, remains stuck in the Dark Ages. I can’t wait for the day when they finally reverse their support of fluoride and mercury and join the rest of the sane people in the world who have long since figured out that toxic chemicals do not belong in the human body.

This is not complicated, folks. I think that perhaps the only reason anyone still supports fluoride or mercury is because their brains have been affected by the chemicals.

And yes, by the way, it’s true that people who handle fluoride have to wear chemical suits, just as shown in this comic. If you drop a bottle of pure fluoride and inhale the fumes or get some on your skin, it can kill you.

Commentary by Mike Adams, the creator of this cartoon:

No matter how much scientific consensus emerges linking human activity to global warming, there always seems to be a bunch of kooky deniers who insist that polluting the atmosphere has absolutely no effect on the planet. In the United States, these kooky deniers happen to be Republican politicians and the businessmen who fund their reelection campaigns.

Their statements about global warming remind me of the Flat Earth Society (people who still insist the Earth is flat), or Holocaust deniers. They just won’t acknowledge what’s happening right in front of them — the climate changes, crazy weather patterns, melting ice caps and rising oceans.

In this cartoon, I decided to show a typical Republican global warming denier altering his statements as the water rises around him. First, it’s the blatant denial, “There’s no such thing as global warming.” Then, as the water level reaches his waist, he proclaims, “Global warming was invented by the media!” As the water level reaches his neck, he shouts, “Global warming exists, but it’s not our fault!” (Which means global warming isn’t caused by human activity. This is the current defense of the Republican kooks.) And finally, in a mad rage, “We have to save the economy, not the planet!”

It takes a special set of skills to be a Republican these days. You have to close your heart, install blinders on your head and have a special knack for denying reality, even as the evidence against your position is obvious to everyone else. These skills have been mastered by many politicians in the United States today, who think that saving the Earth for future generations would be way too expensive to the people living on the planet today. Therefore, they’ve decided to just throw away the future and keep on polluting beyond all reason, letting future populations deal with the consequences.

We do the same thing with the national debt, chemical pollutants, groundwater supplies and fossil fuels: let our grandchildren worry about it! It’s the ultimate bucking of responsibility by a political leadership that demonstrates absolutely no stewardship of natural resources.

There will be a dear price to pay for what we’ve done to the environment of this planet. It will be a thousand years before the climate stabilizes, and that’s if we slash emissions starting right now. Truly, future generations who manage to scratch out a living amid water scarcity, food shortages and devastating weather patterns will curse the modern-day United States and China for blatantly increasing global pollution in a time when the evidence linking CO2 emissions to global warming was undeniable by any sane person.

Commentary by Mike Adams, the creator of this cartoon:

This comic plays on the ridiculous position of the Bush Administration and the pro-business crowd when it comes to CO2 emissions and polluting the environment. Essentially, Big Business wants to pollute the planet to just below the point of no return, somehow protecting the economy while just barely averting global climate change by controlling emissions to levels they argue won’t cause global warming.

Of course, what these short-sighted pro-business people don’t realize is that we’re already PAST the point of no return. Thanks to the Bush Administration’s outright hostility towards anything resembling honest climate change science, the world’s largest polluter — the United States — has set things in motion that will radically alter the planet for hundreds of years to come, and we’re going to be paying the price for generations.

The 20th and 21st centuries will someday be remembered as a time of madness, when the pursuit of corporate profits was considered more important than life, health or even the future of the planet.

There are people who, still today, argue with a straight face that massive human pollution has absolutely zero impact on the environment. Rising world temperatures, the melting of polar ice and radical changes in global weather patterns are just “imaginary,” they argue. These things aren’t really happening, they tell us. And the more than 600 scientists representing 300+ nations who issued a joint report saying global warming is “very likely” caused by human activity are all suffering from delusions, we’re told.

And you know who’s supporting this denial of reality in the United States? Republicans. From President Bush all the way down to the web gossip kings, these deniers use misdirection, propaganda and their typical fear mongering to try to scare us into believing that protecting the environment will somehow destroy the U.S. economy.

I have news for ya, folks: the U.S. economy is already headed for financial ruin! And once these environmental changes kick in even further, sharply decreasing food production across North America, our economy will find itself in even worse circumstances.

You see, the only way to save the economy is to save the planet first. When the planet becomes inhospitable, there is no economy, period. But if you take care of the planet, it will reward you with abundance: food, medicine, clean water and fresh air. These things are prerequisites for all other human activity (and, therefore, economic activity) on the planet.

Humans are the only species that actually steal the future from their own children. I think it’s time we put a stop to that and started honoring the planet that has given us so much abundance in the past — and will continue to do so in the future if we would only stop destroying it.
